What if I told you that you could get $325 by joining a research study that aims to improve LGBTQ+ health?

​

Take charge of your sexual and mental health. Join a Brown University School of Public Health research study examining the effectiveness of a program that combines sexual health counseling with a cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) approach, a type of talk therapy for individuals who are experiencing a loss of interest in activities they previously enjoyed. Complete 4 surveys totaling about 10 hours across 12 months and get up to $325.

How do I know this is a real study? 

This study is run by Brown University, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Emory Atlanta Adolescent Consortium, University of Illinois Chicago, Tulane University, and The Fenway Institute as part of the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network.

The Adolescent Medicine Trials Network's (ATN) primary mission is to conduct different kinds of research studies related to HIV prevention and care for people who are between 13 and 24 years of age and living in the United States. Here is the link to the ATN study page.

The ATN is funded by a grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and funds research studies nationwide to improve health and save lives. Here is the link to our NIH Clinical Trials page.

 

This study is approved by two research oversight groups known as an Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) to protect research volunteers. These are the Sterling Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Brown University Institutional Review Board (IRB). You may contact the Brown Study team at fresh@brown.edu or by phone at (401) 863-7299. You are welcome to contact us any time; however, we can only guarantee a response during business hours, Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.  

Will you share my information with anyone else?

We take the privacy of our volunteers and participants very seriously. We will not share your information with anyone outside of the study team unless: 

1. You give us explicit permission to share your information. 

2. We are required by law to share your information: in other words, suspected child or elder abuse or infectious disease reporting to your local health department.   

3. You are at immediate risk to harm yourself or others: for example, you have an active plan to commit suicide, you threaten to hurt the research staff, etc.  

Will you ever share my information with police or law enforcement? 

As a last resort for extreme cases, we may dial 9-1-1 in emergency medical, life or death situations.

The study is covered by a Certificate of Confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This means that the research staff cannot share any identifying information, even if ordered by a court of law, unless you give us permission to do so.
